There are rating systems that don't allow younger people to purchase games. I know people go around these regulations all the time. But what more can be done?

haha Now to teach the parents how to use them. lol

At my mom's house they use my brothers xbox as a dvd player downstairs. My mom can't even figure out how to play a dvd on it. She has no chance of managing to set parental controls. That being said, I suppose this is largely only a single generation issue. Surely future parents will have a better understanding of technology.

In terms of the Gaming Industries evolution, I'd definately say that the current generation of people or the majority atleast, do not like to wait for things and don't appreciate a logical approach to most in-game situations.

They like things now, fast paced and explosive.

Sure one can appreciate this from time to time - But what effect will this have?

Slowly but surely I feel my patience with day to day things ( Yes it can be applied to real life aswell ) wearing away.

Is it the aging process? Perhaps.

But what happened to the days when most games required a decent amount of thought?

Super Mario, Pac Man, Tetris - These were all enjoyable games and they all required a decent amount of thought before proceeding through them.

I'd say games like these definately had a benefit growing up as a child with problem solving and even just being more patient.

I am a World of Warcraft player and I can definately say that they youth of todays generation has had a derogatory effect on the community from what it once was.

Gamers and society in general in this age of constant interconnectivity want things faster because they are used to getting things at the click of a button.

Over the coming years I have a feeling this will effect human social skills in general - At the moment from what I can see, perhaps an adverse effect. But hey, we are humans, we adept to situations very well.

I hope you enjoyed my first post and some of my thoughts.

Your post definitely resonates with me. I see parallels between how I play a game and how I live my life. But it is impossible to tell which is influencing the other, or in what ways they influence each other.

i think games can reflective a persons attitude sometimes. i don't know about influence it towards violence. maybe. but lets not forget, before videogames we still figured out how to make bombs and missiles and guns and tanks and swordfights....and torture....i dunno lol i know we all want to be civilized but i do think we've come quite a long way......i will say this though. these games where you can be good and evil...i dunno its just interesting to see what a person will do when real consequences are removed, yeah?

Violence among youth is rising as the violence of video games is rising. That does not mean they are related. Another variable could be influencing both. If they are related we do not know which one is causing the other.

You're right. It is not necessarily the case that violent games are making kids more violent. Causation could be reversed. A more violent market might demand more violent games.

I get that there is a possibility of that Omega but it doesn't seem likely.

i think what dizzyd said is paramount here: we don't know which causes the other. you put something in a commercial game that you think would make it sell. whose fault is it if violence sells. because if cuddly bunnies and unicorns sold better you'd best believe they'd make em that way.
